Improving website performance

You know..It is often possible to make the contents of a web page take fewer bytes without changing the appearance or function of the page. Reducing the number of bytes a client has to download makes the page load faster.

Page Speed is a Firefox extension that evaluates web pages and gives suggestions on how to improve them. You have to install the add-on firebug in to support that.

As an example:

1.Download firebug from http://getfirebug.com and page speed from http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/download.html.

2.Restart firefox and go to the home page of http://www.kingslake.com/. (unpaid advertisement for the company currently I’m working at 😉 )

3.Open firebug add-on which is in the lower right hand corner.

4.Go to “Page Speed”tab in firebug and select “Performance”tab.

5.Click on the “Analyze Performance” button.

6.You will get a Page Speed Score:78/100 and the issues which make the web page slow.

7.Major issues are indicated in red and medium issues are in yellow.

8.Click on the “+” icon before the issues and read the suggestions.

9.For further details please refer the documentation of Page Speed at http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/docs/using.html

This is a cool tool..which made my life very easy.. hope this will also help you friends. 🙂
